The night before the storm, all was well as Meg and I rode our bikes to Boston, where we took in a Lakers-Celtics game at The Garden. It was a lovely evening:
But the next day the floodgates opened, and for the better part of a day the snow came pouring down.
Below is a before, during & after image taken in front of my workplace, illustrating the sheer volume of snow that fell in a single day:
Schools, businesses, restaurants and just about everything closed down for that day, and the next day or two thereafter. However, since I live close to my lab, I went to work anyway (I walked). The governor of Massachusetts mandated that it was illegal to drive once the snowstorm began, so the walk back home that night was remarkable, in an eerie, post-apocalyptic kind of way. No cars, people here and there walking down the middle of a usually-congested street. An occasional snow-plow cruising by...

And while the vast majority of businesses were closed, we found to our pleasant surprise that the neighborhood bar & grill across the street was open (and hopping!)
Finally, the next morning we were treated to a foot of fresh snow lying on the ground, and all the associated fun activities!

And so, I am happy to report that Meg and I have now experienced a true New England Winter. (And now we are ready for a New England Spring.)
