Episode CLXXVII: Cabin Number Four

The Pandemic has been going on long enough that we're up to Cabin Number Four, according to Elliot's reckoning of our road trips to remote airbnb destinations.

This time we traveled down to the Gulf of Mexico, near Corpus Christi, Texas.

The trip was ~6 hours each way, and Elliot was a champ. (So was Meg.) We took a picnic break at a park in La Grange, TX, overlooking the Colorado River.

Our cabin was in the tiny town of Woodsboro, TX. (Fun fact: it seems every single street in Woodsboro is full of potholes!)

Elliot's favorite part of Cabin Number Four: a cupboard full of board games! The highlights were rolling dice, adding up the numbers, and moving approximately the correct number of spaces.

We visited Padre Island National Seashore, where we swam in the ocean (and/or ran away from it) and got lots of sand in our eyes.

In  Corpus Christi we visited the USS Lexington, a ginormous aircraft carrier that served in the Pacific during WWII (among other things).

Learning important life skills.

On the flight deck, giddy with excitement to find planes he was allowed to touch.

Navigating the ship.

He fit pretty well in the bunk beds.

Finally, we visited Aransas National Wildlife Preserve, where we saw alligators, deer, and lots of birds.

The preserve is the winter home for most of the remaining wild whooping cranes in the world (only a few hundred remain), and we were lucky enough to spot a couple. My analysis is: (1) they are very tall (~5 feet!), and (2) they are rather funny looking.

I didn't take this picture, but I think it gets my point across.
